Farm Tours Inspire the Next Generation of Black Farmers

One of the highlights of the ACFS Agricultural Training and Incubation Program has been a series of educational farm tours designed to connect participants with British Columbia’s diverse agricultural community. These visits provide participants with valuable opportunities to learn directly from experienced farmers while exploring practical farming methods that can be adapted to grow culturally appropriate crops in the province.

As part of the program, participants took part in a two-day educational tour of four successful farms in British Columbia: Sole Food Street Farms, The Sharing Farm, Glen Valley Organic Farm, and Glorious Organics Co-op.

Each visit offered a unique learning experience and exposed participants to different approaches to sustainable farming, crop production, and community-based agriculture.

They also had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with experienced farmers and agricultural professionals, asking questions about soil management, irrigation, crop selection, pest management, harvesting techniques, and the realities of farming in British Columbia’s climate.

As participants continue their eight-month training journey, the knowledge and inspiration gained from these farm tours will serve as an important foundation for managing their own training plots and developing the practical skills needed to become the next generation of Black farmers in British Columbia.
